Samuthirakani's Pettikadai is getting ready for release

Director Samuthirakani has finished shooting for his new heroic film Pettikadai which will soon hit the screens. In the film, the actor plays a revolutionary teacher named Samuthirapandi.

Veera of Mosakkutty fame plays another hero in Pettikadai. The film also has Naan Kadavul Rajendran, Chandini, Varsha, and Sundar Ashmitha in important roles.

Talking about the film, Samuthirakani said: Pettikadai director Isakki Karvannan is very confident about his content, he even wanted the film to release opposite Sarkar. He said that Sarkar team talks about corruption in politics whereas Pettikadai talks about criminals in the society.

The film's director Isakki said: "Petti shops were used to be an integral part of our life. But now supermarkets and online shopping culture killing the small business which used to yield profits to a lot of people."

The audio of the film was launched by Bharathiraja, he said: "These days if we talk about a good issue, we are labeled as anti-social elements. This film's director named his film as Pettikadai- without GST and I'm sure he will face a lot of oppositions. If we refuse to protest, everything including our culture and rights will go out of our hands."

Prashanth's Johnny to release on December 14

After a brief hiatus, actor Prashanth is back with an action thriller titled Johnny. Directed by newcomer Vetri Selvan, Prashanth plays a fearless man, Johnny who fights against an underworld smuggling gang. The film also has an ensemble of actors including Prabhu, Sanchitta Shetty, Anandaraj, Ashutosh Rana, Sayaji Shinde, Athma, Devadharshini, Kalairani, Sandhya, and Sona.

Produced by Prashanth's dad Thiagarajan, Ranjan Durairaj has composed music for the film and Mv Panneer Selvam is in charge for the visuals. Besides playing the lead role, Prashanth himself has done the VFX portions in the film.

Other than Johnny, Prashanth also plays a pivotal role in Ram Charan's upcoming commercial entertainer Vinaya Vidheya Rama which is slated to release on January 2019.

Vikram Prabhu - Hansika Motwani action thriller 'Thuppakki Munai' to release on December 14

Vikram Prabhu and Hansika Motwani starrer action thriller Thuppakki Munai is all set to release on December 14. Directed by Dinesh Selvaraj, an erstwhile associate of Mani Ratnam, the film is being produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu’s V Creations.

Sources say that Vikram Prabhu plays an encounter specialist in Thuppakki Munai and Hansika Motwani is said to be playing a unique, quirky role. In an earlier interaction with Sify, Hansika said: "There are two shades for me and Vikram in Thuppakki Munai which is a stylish film and the director is very smart. As you all know, Thanu sir knows exactly what he is doing".

Rasamathi has cranked the camera for Thuppakki Munai and LV Muthu Ganesh is composing the music. Other than Vikram and Hansika, the film also has MS Baskar and Vela Ramamoorthy in important roles.

Forbes' Top 100 Richest Southern Stars

Popular magazine Forbes has revealed top 100 Indian celebrities. Leading Bollywood actor Salman Khan tops the list and among Tamil film celebrities, academy award winning composer AR Rahman is at 11th position.

Superstar Rajinikanth is at 14th position in the list, closely followed by Telugu star Pawan Kalyan at the 24th position. Thalapathy Vijay got 26th position, while NTR Jr bags the 28th slot. Chiyaan Vikram and Mahesh Babu ranked 29th and 33rd respectively. Actors Suriya and Vijay Sethupathi shared the 34th position while Nagarjuna and Mammootty bagged the 36th and 49th slots respectively. Multi-faceted Dhanush has been ranked 53rd and Stylish Star Allu Arjun takes the 64th position.

The only actress from the south is Nayanthara at 69th position. She has raced ahead of stars like Kamal Haasan (71st), Ram Charan (72nd) and Vijay Deverakonda (72nd) in this list.

The surprise entries are directors Koratala Siva and Hari who were ranked 39th and 79th on the list, thanks to the hefty remuneration they received for Bharat Ane Nenu and Saamy Square!

Vijay's Sarkar, Ajith's Viswasam top trends on Twitter in 2018

This year, the South Indian film industry generated massive engagement on Twitter, thanks to films like Thalapathy Vijay's Sarkar, Thala Ajith's Viswasam, Mahesh Babu's Bharat Ane Nenu, NTR Jr's Aravindha Sametha, Ram Charan's Rangasthalam and of course, Thalaivar Rajinikanth's Kaala.

Overall, regional cinema conversations clinched 6 of the Top 10 hashtags this year, with Sarkar topping the list, closely followed by Viswasam and Bharat Ane Nenu. The fourth, fifth and sixth films to top trends were Aravindha Sametha, Rangasthalam and Kaala respectively.

Thalapathy Vijay's Sarkar also topped the 2018 Most Influencial Moments on Twitter. In Tamil Nadu, Sarkar holds the all-time day one record by grossing nearly 30 crores. Sources add that Rajinikanth's 2.0 also falls short to Vijay's previous film, Mersal day-one collection in Tamil Nadu. 

With a political vein pulsating through the film, Sarkar was embroiled in controversy as well. The ruling government of TN protested against certain scenes featured in the film, filed court cases against Vijay and even protested outside the threatres.

This paved the way for more conversations about the film in the Twitterverse. 'Evanukku Engeyo MatchamIrukku' on December 7

Adult comedy films are reaping profits in Tamil cinema. After Hara Hara Mahadevaki and Iruttu Araiyil Murattu Kuthu, Vemal's Evanukku Engeyo Machcham Irukku team is delighted as they have locked the territory wise business and they are already said to be in a profit zone.

Directed by AR Mukesh, Evanukku Engeyo Machcham Irukku is the remake of Telugu hit Guntur Talkies. Ashna Zaveri, Anandaraj and Singampuli are playing pivotal roles in the film. The makers also have roped in popular porn star Miya Rai in an important role.

Talking about the film, AR Mukesh said that he has mixed humor and comedy in equal proportions. The songs and posters of the film have created a good curiosity among the youngsters who are expected to provide the desired opening at the box office.

Mad rush for Christmas weekend in Kollywood

Four Tamil films are competing with each other to get screens for the Christmas weekend. The first film to announce Christmas release was Vijay Sethupathi’s Seethakathi, the makers long back got the release date fixed for December 20. After Seethakathi, Vishnu Vishal’s comedy cop entertainer Silukkuvarpatti Singam locked December 21.

2.0 rocks at the US BO!

Although Shankar and Rajinikanth's 2.0 began its run on a dull note, the film has witnessed a huge jump in the collections over the weekend. On Saturday, the film has grossed more than $1.29 million taking its total cumulative gross to $3 million mark.

'Viswasam' gets ready

The first look images of Thala Ajith's Pongal release Viswasam are out all over the internet. Talking about the film in a promotional interview to Ananda Vikatan, director Siva said that Viswasam's first half is set in the village backdrop and the second half will be in city.

Siva says that Ajith learnt Madurai Tamil for his role in the film and his body language will depict the innocence of a village guy. Talking about Nayanthara’s role in the film, Siva said that the actress plays an important character Niranchana.

For the village portions, Thambi Ramaiah will take care of the comic portions while Vivek and Kovai Sarala are in charge to provide lighter moments in the second half. Recent comedy sensation Yogi Babu also plays a pivotal role in the film.

Siva has also revealed that Viswasam will have five fights and among which the entire team worked hard for a rain stunt. Produced by Sathya Jyothi Films, Imman is composing the music for the film and Vetri has cranked the camera.

2.0 - Spellbinding visuals unfold on screen

Amid much anticipation, Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar's 2.0 hit the big screens on Thursday. For the first time, the film brings together 'Thalaivar' Rajinikanth, 'Khiladi' Akshay Kumar and director Shankar and is a sequel of 2010 film Enthiran.

Bigg Boss Suja Varunee marries Sivaji Ganesan's grandson Shivakumar

Suja Varunee who became famous after her recent Bigg Boss stint has married Shivakumar, son of Ramkumar Ganesan and Meenakshi.

Ramkumar is the elder son of veteran actor Sivaji Ganesan and he was also seen playing the antagonist in director Shankar's Ai. The wedding was held at Crowne Plaza in Chennai with the presence of many film fraternities.

Both Suja Varunee and Shivakumar were in a relationship for a longtime that the actress also spoke about him in the Bigg Boss show. Shivakumar was seen playing lead roles in a few films including Singakutty and Idhuvum Kadanthu Pogum.

Following the marriage, the couple also held a reception at the same star hotel. Actors including Sivakumar, Latha, Sripriya, Karthi, Mumtaz, Uma Riaz, Janani Iyer, Raadhikaa and many others graced the event.
